Being Flavors Doing
I’m writing another book! This time, all poetry. About life! Go figure. Below enjoy one of my latest pieces.
Salon for one
A simple haircut
Not simple for him
He struggles with the process
Walking into the room
Sitting in the chair
Keeping still
Being, feeling okay in his skin
Challenges, all challenges
In an instant
I feel the stillness
Stark contrast to my speeded up ness
Already late
Pushing to get him in the room,
Sit in the chair
ME
Slow
Calm
Patient
Loving
Waiting
HER
I sense she has all the time in the world
No need to rush
Specially chosen calm music
Time for a head massage
Back rub
Gentle, soft conversation
Slowness is palpable
Presence is palpable
Love is palpable
Taking her time,
she explains what’s next
She pauses
A longer than expected pause
But perfect,
just right for him
Processing time
No jumping right in
No hurry
I feel it
It calms me too
“All is well” energy
permeates the space
The beauty and success
Of this haircut
Is about
How she shows up
Who she is being.
The doing,
The cutting, trimming
Bloom from her being.
An ordinary men’s haircut
With precision
On somebody who
Makes precision
A challenge
It doesn’t appear a challenge
Under her clippers
It looks like loving flow
In this peaceful room
One section at a time,
She explains
She waits
She cuts
Repeat
Move to a different area
Repeat
Move back to a previous area
Repeat
Repeat again
Until the job is done
It takes as long as it takes
She makes it just right
No corners cut
Or skimping on excellence
It matters
He matters
Being flavors doing
It works that way
